Cashmere and silk scarf, 25'' x 71''
Ref. H461540S 13
A scarf inspired by embroidered motifs from the Island of Skyros located in the middle of the Aegean Sea. The art of embroidery has existed on the Island of Skyros since the Byzantine era. The pieces were created on linen using silk or gold thread. Vegetable dyes were used. The embroideries depicted a range of subjects: anthropomorphic monsters, gorgons, two-headed creatures, lions, horses, stags, crabs, roosters, peacocks, geese and eagles. Plants, flowers, branches, leaves and cypress trees in flower pots were also represented. Each of these fresh embroideries possessing an innocent quality encapsulate a story.
