The 1930s. On holiday on the Normandy coast, Robert Dumas, his eyes alert, noticed the purity of line and elegance of the chain linking a boat to its anchor. He drew inspiration from this to design a bracelet.
His father-in-law, Emile Hermès, was filled with enthusiasm. The equestrian world, with its various loops, had hitherto been the main source of inspiration for Hermes jewelry, but it was now the world of sailing that stirred them with a sea breeze.
